Adoption Agency Northwest UK

Assessment, Therapy & Counselling Service

A new service for adopted children, Looked After children and children living in Kinship Care or with Special Guardians.

Adoption Matters Northwest is pleased to announce the introduction of a new service. The aim is to expand the current provision of advice and guidance provided by the agency by establishing an Assessment, Therapy and Counselling Service. The Service was planned initially to meet the needs of adoptive families, but has been extended to meet the needs of a broader range of children who may present similar needs. We know that from time to time some children will need additional therapeutic support. The Service will provide a network of therapists and counsellors which families and social work practitioners can contact if the need arises.

'Target 3.5 thousand'

Adoption Matters Northwest is asking: Where are you?

The two former diocesan adoption agencies of Chester and Blackburn have collectively placed approximately 3,500 children with new adoptive families over the last fifty years.

The Target 3.5 Thousand Project has been put together to get in touch with as many as possible of those people who were adopted through the agencies. We are interested in what they feel is important for the next generation of adopted children. We would like adopted adults to feedback to us about their adoption experiences and perhaps they may feel able to contribute ideas and opinions about how we can build upon the adoption services for the next 3,500 children. In order to make contact with our adoptees and build a community, we have constructed a three-question survey called ‘Target 3.5’ and we hope this is the start of a project which will focus on improving support or which will pave the way for new strategies, particularly in post adoption services. Being part of this community could also enable you to help us in other ways by giving time, expertise and resources.

We will welcome anyone else who wishes to fill in the survey and give us their feedback. You can access the survey by clicking on the orange text title above. All details given are confidential. The project has been launched in conjunction with National Adoption Week and will continue into the new year. Please have a go at completing this survey and perhaps encourage other people to log on to our website and get involved.
